From Camp to Disney

celiadirenzo1Summer is ending and many of our campers are reflecting on their experiences, not only from the past summer, but also about growing up as a Y camp kid.

Celia DiRenzo (pictured in yellow, at right) attended Camp Y-Noah for the first time when she was just five years old. She attended the camp at our North Area Family Y for eight summers, followed by two summers as a C.I.T. (Counselor in Training). And then, in 2015 and 2016, she came full circle and was able to work as a counselor for the camp she loved so much.

“When I was younger I was very shy and I felt like I wouldn't ‘fit in’,” said Celia. “Being a part of the YMCA (member or staff) completely eliminates the chance of that shy feeling occurring.”

Celia credits Camp Y-Noah’s constant good energy and positive role models for molding her into the person she is today and taught her core values that she utilizes in her everyday life. She has confidence and learned how to be strong, but with a soft place in her heart. Celia is excited to bring her love for communications and children to an internship at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida this fall. She can’t wait to take all the wonderful things she learned at the Y and implement them in her new role.

“The YMCA has been a major part in the construction of myself and my personality.”celiadirenzo2
