Making it Easier for Parents to Vote

Today the YMCA of Greater Syracuse announced that it will host free child care services on Election Day, providing busy parents and caregivers the opportunity to make it easier to get to the polls on November 6. Taking kids to the polls may add stress for busy parents and caregivers; the Y is committed to doing its part to help remove barriers to voting so that all Americans can vote.

“The Y has a long, proud history of promoting civic engagement. It’s an essential part of our cause to strengthen communities,” said Mike Brown, President and CEO at the YMCA of Greater Syracuse. “We know that one reason people may not vote is due to lack of child care and we want to ensure that those who want to, are able to make their voices heard. As the largest provider of child care in the country, the Y is uniquely positioned to offer care on Election Day to all families in the community.”

The YMCA of Greater Syracuse will offer free child care at the following locations on November 6th:

  • Hal Welsh East Area Family YMCA, 200 Towne Drive, Fayetteville, 315.637.2025
  • Manlius YMCA, 140 West Seneca Street, Manlius, 315.692.4777
  • North Area Family YMCA, 4775 Wetzel Road, Liverpool, 315.451.2562
  • Northwest Family YMCA, 8040 River Road, Baldwinsville, 315.303.5966
  • Southwest YMCA, 4585 West Seneca Turnpike (OCC), Syracuse, 315.498.2699

TIME: Check with local branch for PrimeTime child care hours. (You may drop-off & pick-up at any time during that time frame.)

FEE: Free for community (Y members and public). Registration beforehand is encouraged, but drop-ins are welcome. Drop-ins will be required to fill out all necessary paperwork.
