Summer Impact at the Y

YMCA Summer Impact

The Y believes that every kid deserves the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. Through the YMCA of Greater Syracuse, thousands of youth today are cultivating the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. This impact is seen throughout the year, but especially during the summer, when our camp programs, water safety and educational programs are in full swing.

During the 2017 summer, we are serving kids in over 8800 sessions. Camp Iroquois has children attending 1675 sessions and our branch camps have 4198 sessions across our association. Our arts camps have almost 500 sessions, including an offsite program at Stone Quarry Art Park.

In the summer alone, we run over 2200 swim lesson sessions at our East, North and Northwest branches. Our Safety Around Water program is helping 120 kids in the city of Syracuse learn how to stay safe in and around the water. Additionally, over 900 swimsuits were distributed at 6 different sites to kids and their families.

Our Y Power Scholars Academy program has expanded to Wilson, Burnet and Schiller Parks, helping 63 students improving their educational readiness and engagement.

With the support of generous donors and volunteers and our skilled staff, we’re making a big impact on kids in our community this summer.
