Northwest Family YMCA Lifeguards Honored

Lifeguards HonoredFour young lifeguards at the Northwest Family YMCA were recently honored by local emergency responders for their life-saving efforts last year. A young man suffered a cardiac event while swimming with a friend in the Northwest pool in June of 2016. Thanks to the aquatics staff at the Y, along with assistance from Y members, the young man was revived.

Nate Fenlon (Head Lifeguard), Megan Foriero (Lifeguard), Nick Aguirre (Lifeguard) and Brittany Zaharias (Aquatic Supervisor) were each presented with Regional Call Commendation plaques by Susie Surprenant of Central New York Regional Emergency Medical Services at a board meeting at the Northwest Family YMCA in Baldwinsville. They had been nominated for the award by both the Belgium Cold Spring Fire Department and the Greater Baldwinsville Ambulance Corps.

“We’re proud of our guards and the recognition they have received,” said Jennifer Savery, Aquatics Director at the Northwest Family YMCA. “At the Y, we train to be ready to save a life at any time and keeping our members safe is our highest priority.”
