NWFY Offers Unique Running Programs

The Northwest Family YMCA offers several unique running programs to help members reach their personal and fitness goals. Last year, more than 800 runners participated in YMCA sponsored running programs. With the opening of the new YMCA this year, members can join one of four new running clubs formed at the NWFY through the Y’s Free Group Running Series for beginner through intermediate level runners.

The Group Running Series features a 15-week long running program designed to teach basic training concepts for optimal fitness and development. Participants are given detailed training plans and logs for the program and offered twice-weekly group training. In addition to the Group Running Series, the NWFY offers other running programs including the Developmental Long Run Series (all levels), the walkers-to-runners program (all levels), and Spring Marathon/Half Marathon Training (intermediate and advanced runners).

Y family members are encouraged to visit the Y Runners page on our website, or contact Kevin Collins at KevinYmarathon@gmail.com, for more information about these programs. Registration is available onsite at any YMCA branch.

The Northwest Family YMCA features one of the region’s few indoor running tracks. The newly named Haylor, Freyer & Coon indoor track includes a three-lane, 1/8th mile track with special flooring that is designed to be gentle on joints. The track is located on the mezzanine level overlooking the Health and Wellness Center and basketball courts.

For information on how members of the community can show their support through a gift to the ALL IN campaign for the Northwest Family YMCA, visit www.NWFY.org or call Elizabeth Quilter, Chief Development Officer for the YMCA of Greater Syracuse, at 315-530-5979.
