Program Spotlight
Youth & Government

Samantha McCarthy, a member of the North Area Family YMCA Youth And
Government team, has been selected as one of just 21 teens in New York
State to attend the national Conference on National Affairs, to be held
in Blue Ridge, N.C., June 29-July 5.
Samantha, a sophomore at Liverpool High School, was selected from among 600 Youth And Government participants who met recently at the Statehouse in Albany. There, she and her teammates identified statewide needs, wrote mock bills, debated their merits and passed mock legislation using proper parliamentary procedures.
"Samantha, who is smart, outspoken and persuasive, impressed
the judges," said Tess Kenney, director of the North Area Family YMCA
Youth And Government team. She will represent New York at the national
convention.
